Network Engineer - Talent Network (Data for Autonomous Systems)

MercorBusiness and Consulting

$50-$70/hr

About this role

Are you a hands-on enterprise network engineer — Level 3 / Tier 3 support, network operations, or the person your team escalates to — interested in data science and autonomous infrastructure? Our client is building vertically integrated networking systems and using the data they generate to power the next generation of AI-driven infrastructure. They're looking for engineers experienced in troubleshooting, escalations, packet analysis and RCA workflows to help label, annotate, and structure networking data from real production systems. This is a hands-on role that blends your troubleshooting and incident-response experience with a growing understanding of how data pipelines are built and used in AI systems. About this talent network This is an ongoing talent network rather than a single open vacancy. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and interview rounds run periodically as the client opens new headcount. Completing the technical practicum now means your profile is ready to be put forward as soon as the next round opens — there's no need to reapply later. In this role, you'll: - Review real-world data from deployed networks: logs, configs, telemetry, event streams - Label and classify network behaviors, issues, anomalies, and incident patterns - Help define schemas and structure for large-scale data pipelines that downstream ML models will train on Must have: - Hands-on experience operating enterprise production networks — switches, access points and firewalls — in end-customer environments such as retail, healthcare, financial, manufacturing, university or hospitality - At least 5 years of experience in network engineering, network operations or network support roles - Currently, or most recently, working in a hands-on network engineering, network operations or network support role Strongly preferred: - Experience as an escalation point for network incidents — Tier 3, final escalations, on-call rotation, RCAs, troubleshooting outages - Hands-on enterprise Wi-Fi — WLAN controllers (Cisco WLC/9800, Aruba, or Meraki), 802.1X / RADIUS, and wireless troubleshooting - Packet-level troubleshooting you do yourself — Wireshark, tcpdump, SPAN captures - Exposure to a wide variety of network environments, vendors and customer types — whether through an MSP, VAR or systems integrator, or a single enterprise with a genuinely diverse estate - Networks operated across multiple sites or a large campus environment - Curiosity about how raw infrastructure data becomes machine learning input This is a maintainer role — likely not the right fit if your current work is mainly network design/architecture, cloud/SRE, security/SOC, or IT helpdesk. Your work will directly feed into the pipelines that power client's AI models, and help shape how intelligent systems reason about networks in the real world. Here are more details about the role: - You will interface directly with the client team. - You are expected to work 30-40 hours/week, with your hours overlapping the Pacific (PT) business day. - This is an individual 1099 contract paid to a personal account — no corp-to-corp or agency billing. - You must be authorized to work in the US or Canada without sponsorship. Please note this project cannot accommodate F-1 STEM OPT, as Mercor is unable to sign Form I-983. Standard F-1 OPT is fine.

About this role

About the work We are building a dataset of real retail trading behavior: complete brokerage trade histories, paired with the trader's own explanation of how they trade and why they made their biggest decisions. The data is used to study and model how individual traders make decisions. This is a one-time task, paid a flat $400 on completion. What you will do 1. Upload your trade history. Export your complete transaction history from your U.S. brokerage account using the broker's standard export, and upload it to our platform. It must cover at least 24 months and include every trade, with none removed. Remove your name, account numbers, address and other personal details before uploading. 2. Describe your trading style. Write a short summary (about 100 to 250 words) of your strategy, typical holding period, the instruments you trade and the platforms you use. 3. Explain your 5 biggest trades. Pick at least 5 of your most significant or influential trades, such as large gains, large losses or high-conviction calls, with stocks preferred. For each, explain your reasoning at entry or exit and what information drove the decision. Keep any reflection on how it turned out separate from your original reasoning. Each explanation must name a specific trade in your history, with the symbol, date, side and quantity matching that trade. The writing takes up to about 1.5 hours. Pay - $400, paid once you have uploaded your full history and fully annotated at least 5 trades. - Partial submissions are not paid: the upload and all 5 annotations are required. Who we are looking for - Location: United States only. - Trading experience: at least 2 years of active trading on your own account, and at least 1,000 trades over that period (about 2 per trading day). - Instruments: stocks; options count too. - Broker: your account is with a U.S. retail broker, such as Robinhood, Schwab, Fidelity, E\TRADE, Webull or Interactive Brokers. - Background: any. No minimum education and any field of study, from current college students to graduate-degree holders. Non-finance professionals, finance professionals and full-time traders all qualify. Current or former professional traders can take part using their own personal account only. - Age: 18 or older. - Willing to share your complete brokerage trade history, with no trades removed. Not a fit - Fewer than 2 years of history, or fewer than 1,000 trades - Trading only through an account you don't own, such as a managed, employer or prop-firm account - Trading mostly crypto or futures Data license agreement Taking part requires signing Mercor's Expert Content License Agreement, which covers how your trading history and annotations are licensed and used. You sign it as part of applying.

About this role

Opportunity Snapshot Pay: $80- $185/hour Commitment: Flexible — fits alongside your current role Location: Fully remote You’ll need: Master’s or PhD in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering, plus principal-level industry experience or a faculty appointment Your tasks: Build challenging technical problems from your own domain and define what makes an answer correct You'll be working on The problems where the textbook answer isn’t enough, where the right approach depends on reading the constraints correctly, where a plausible-looking solution is quietly wrong. You’ll build those problems, provide the correct analysis, and define what separates a right answer from one that only looks right. What you’ll do 1. Design difficult technical problems from your own area — process design, production systems, quality engineering, automation, supply chain and operations modeling — with realistic constraints and supporting data. 2. Provide the correct solution and walk through the reasoning that gets there. 3. Define objective criteria for correctness, so another expert reviewing the work would reach the same verdict. 4. Review problems built by other contributors for technical accuracy and soundness of method. 5. Flag problems that turn out to be ambiguous or ungradable rather than submitting them. What we’re looking for 1. Master’s or PhD in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. 2. Principal, staff, or fellow-level experience at a major manufacturing organization, or a faculty appointment at a leading university. 3. Deep technical depth in at least one subdomain, with hands-on ownership of the work. 4. Able to explain why an answer is correct clearly enough that another engineer could verify it. 5. Publications, patents, or a record of technical leadership is a strong plus. 6. AI or LLM evaluation experience is a plus, but not required. How the selection process works 1. Apply and complete the screening questions 2. Complete the AI interview for this role — it’s how your expertise gets in front of the client 3. Profile review 4. Onboarding — our Talent Ops team will get you set up

About this role

The research teams behind the best-known AI models come to Mercor for financial judgment they can't generate on their own. Your standards and expertise become the rubric that frontier AI is graded against. This is a standing listing for finance professionals who want AI training and evaluation work, not a specific job opening. It stays open whether or not a matching project is running this week. New projects start on short notice, so instead of posting and pulling a listing each time, we keep one open per field and draw from it when one begins. What the work looks like We match finance professionals in the network to projects like: - Writing a financial problem from work you have done, with the filings, the assumptions, and the constraints, plus the reference answer a model's attempt gets graded against - Grading model-built financial work: whether the model ties, whether the accounting treatment is right, whether the valuation assumptions survive a sensitivity check - Flagging where a model's output looks clean on the page and would not pass review, given disclosure requirements, audit standards, or what the numbers actually support Rates vary by specialty within this field. Listings across it have posted from $60 to $180 an hour, set per project by scope and depth. What we're looking for - Professional experience in a finance or accounting discipline - Clear written communication, since most of the work involves explaining your reasoning - Comfort with ambiguous tasks, and willingness to flag unclear instructions What this covers This pool spans the finance field, including: - Accounting and auditing - Corporate finance; investment banking - Asset management; wealth management - Insurance and actuarial science How it works Apply here with your resume and confirm where you work from, then take a short AI interview, about 20 minutes total. We verify your background and add you to the finance pool. When a project needs your specialty, we invite matching people from the pool to that specific listing. It names the rate, the hours, and the client, and any hiring decision is made there. What to expect This listing does not accept or reject candidates, so you will not get a decision on it. We reach out when a project matches your background. Depending on what our clients are running, that can be within a week or several months. Finishing the domain expert interview and joining every network you qualify for both improve your odds of being matched. You only need to sign up once to be eligible across all of them.
